We are happy to announce that we are bringing back the First Holy Communion program for children in our Chaldean community with special needs. Our goal with this program is to welcome everyone and create a network between parents, children and the Chaldean diocese. We want to nourish the spiritual lives of special needs children and their families.
Anyone who needs additional assistance to take their First Holy Communion is welcomed to come. We will take anyone over the age of 6 years old. We have hired a great group of facilitators that will help in each of our classrooms and have brought in teachers and volunteers who are educated in special needs to assist and implement our Chaldean Curriculum. Every special needs child requires an individualized program to better learn the curriculum and we are prepared to offer that to each child.
Classes will be held at Mother of God Chaldean Church in Southfield. The classes will start September 16th and will be held every Monday from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM. Parents are welcome to stay and volunteer or can go to the chapel which is open 24/7 for anyone who does not want to volunteer. Parents are required stay on the premises for safety reasons and for PGC restrictions.
The children will be screened two weeks before classes to determine their learning levels and place them in the proper classes. When parents come in for the screenings please bring the child’s IEP with you to help the professional better place the children in the appropriate class. This will be done via zoom call appointment and will take approximately 30-60 minutes.
The First Holy Communion mass will take place on April 5th, 2025 but subject to change. To help cover costs of books, teacher training and other expenses we do ask for $200 per First Communion Student as we do for all communion programs.
